Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): needle/carb follow-up, engine model type, briggs and stratton

Question
QUESTION: What is your engine model, type and code number so I can look up you carb. You mentioned wires running to the carb. Is there a anti-afterfire solenoid on your carb? If so, is there power (12 volt DC) going to the solenoid? You should have power going to the solenoid when trying to start the engine.

Model is listed above.  Thanks for your help.
One question I still have is the install of the needle/seat.  The needle is installed - point down - with the seat(little round gasket) installed on the top - right below the top of the needle that attaches to the float?  The mower did momentarily start when gas was powered into the air filter.  It does have spark and does start. I don’t know if there is a after fire solenoid on the carb?  It just seems to me that it’s still a carb problem.  I don’t know if I want to spend any more time or money on this project - like a new carb.

ANSWER: I agreee...a carb problem.  Did you install the inlet needle seat with the groove down?

When installing the inlet needle seat, hold the carburetor upside down and install the inlet needle seat with the groove down.  Then install the inlet neelde, float and float pin.  With the float installed and the carb still upside down is the float approximately parallel to the carb body?  The float is not adjustable but I always check to make sure I got the inlet needle seat fully installed.

Did you replace the gasket between the air filter and the carb? I almost always tear the gasket when dis-assembling no matter how careful I am.

Do you have a primer bulb carb set-up?

QUESTION: I really appreciate all your help - kind of like being in school again.  One last time to bother you.  When I received the needle, there was a little - very little - gasket type thing in the Briggs & Stratton package with the needle.  Where does that little gasket go?  How would I check to see if the needle is fully seated?  I'll go back and check that. I'll go back and check the gasket between the air filter and carb.

Answer
The little gasket is for the float bowl nut.  To check the if the neelde is fully seated you can remove the float bowl and turn the carb upside down.  The float should be approximatly parallel with the bottom of the carb body.

Did you blow compressed air from an air compressor through all the carb orfices?  These carbs are pretty dependable and usually run right after a good cleaning.
