Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lawnmower drive broken, craftsman 917, best bet

Question
I own a Craftsman 917.370722 rear drive mower. Drive is gone. Mower runs well, & V-belt seems fine. I suspect gearing (part 193354). I'm handy with tools. Can I repair this myself? Difficult? Tips?  Thanks.

This part is not worth trying to repair as the part's will cost you more than a new drive. Have you checked that the belt idler is good?

The shaft is PART NUMBER: 197385 $26.99 + Tax
The Worm. PART NUMBER: 187533  $18.69 + tax etc etc your best bet is to purchase the whole drive unit for $60.76 and install it yourself  PART NUMBER: 193354 We can have it dropped shipped to you for $55.60 complete includes shipping.Or go to sears to buy it & have them do it.
