Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): carb. fuel inlet, briggs and stratton, inch bolt

Question
I have a B&S 286707-0420-01 with a Walbro LMT 5-4993 carb. the plastic fuel inlet is leaking, how do you replace it?

Answer
If you are referring to Briggs and Stratton 692317, Connector-Hose, you should mark the direction of the fitting before doing anything else.

To replace, you can remove the white plastic nipple by using a hacksaw or some other tool to split it.  It will then pull off.  DO NOT TWIST the connector!!!

With the plastic nipple removed, drill out the fitting with a drill bit so you can tap the inside of the rest of the fitting with a 1/4 inch 20 course thread pitch.

Next you will need a puller.  I use an old socket larger enough to fit over the old fuel fitting.  I run a 1/4 inch bolt, with a nut and washer, through the socket.  Then thread into the old fitting.  Turn the nut with will tighten the bolt and pull the old fitting out.

Use a vice and press in the new fitting.  Make sure the inlet nipple if pointing in the correct direction.

This procedure is not super difficult but you need to be careful not to damage the carb or you will have to replace the whole carb.

It may be worth your money to remove the carb and take it to a repair shop and have them replace the fitting for you.

Did you check Google or You Tube to see if there are any videos describing the procedure?

Let me know if this helps.
