Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda XR2600 pressure washer wont run right, adjustment screws, fuel mix

Question
QUESTION: It is a XR2600 with a GC160 engine, I recently cleaned out the carb with gumout carb and choke cleaner, the airfilter is clean, but when I start it up, it sputters, but doesn't stall, and does not put out much power, but I believe that it may be that i hit the air fuel mix screw when cleaning the carb. How do I know how much it should be turned?

I also, before doing all this, had a problem where it would put out some power, than put out full power for about 30 seconds, and than put out little power again. It also stalls as soon as you release the trigger on the sprayer. Would that be caused by a faulty unloader valve, and if so, how would it be replaced?

Any help is greatly appreciated,
    Mike

ANSWER: mike
Did you take the carburetor apart to clean It? That is rally way to get it  really cleaned out,as the carb has small ports and they can get a piece of trash blocking the port, that will cause the engine to surge because only a small amount of fuel is getting by.

We usually start with the adjustment screws 1-1/2 turns. Turn the screw till it seats in the carb don't force as the tip is really tiny and you could damage it.Once you get it started at those settings then you can fine tune it 1 is the low speed or idle circuit the other is the full throttle.start with the idle first, you may have to increase the idle screw to get it to run.The reason it stalls is because the engine can't handle the load as the carb is messed up

QUESTION: That seems to be taken care of but also, when you build up pressure by releasing the trigger and not spraying water, the engine goes under extreme strain, could it be that the unloader valve is stuck, and if so, how is it tested?

The unloader valve might be the problem there is no way to test it. You need to remove it & see what kind of shape  it is in. You can try cleaning it & check the o-rings for cracks, tears when you  re install it make sure you use silicone grease on the top o-rings only do not grease the bottom o-ring
