Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S 1975 5hp sno gard engine, engine model type, engine numbers

Question
I have a Bob Cat snow blower that has worked very well over the years. I had the points replaced with a pointless magneto last fall. The first time I used the blower it started OK and ran OK cleared the snow. After a while it started to stall under heavy load like it was not getting enough gas. I had to buy a new unit for last winter because of this. I have investigated the problem and find that the unit will start OK, but if you shake the unit back and forth it will stall out like it has run out of gas. I pulled the carb and cleaned everything out with gum out and compressed air. I checked the two filters and they were OK. I replaced the carb gasket and replaced the diaphragm on the carb which I guess is the fuel pump. I still have the same problem, It will run OK but if I shake the blower back and forth the unit will start to stall and in some cases, when it does stall it is very hard to start. Could this problem be caused by the magneto that was replaced? All indications point to a lack of adequate gas to run the engine. This model unit has a bowel for the gas as part of the fuel tank. When the engine is running and starts to stall by pulling out the choke will save it from stalling. Any idea?

Answer
Are there any primer hoses or primer bulbs connected to the carb.

I agree with you, sounds like a carb problem.  What is the engine model, type and code number so I can look up your carb.  B&S sno guards are getting rare these days and I believe you have a two piece up draft carb but I want to make sure.

Send me the engine numbers.
