Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): craftsman weed eater, weed eater, weedeater

Question
THIS CRAFTSMAN FCC WEEDEATER MODEL 358.791070 WAS GIVEN TO ME BY A FRIEND. IT HAD A BAD IGNITION COIL, WELL I REPLACED THE COIL, BUT NOW IT WILL START BUT THEN DIES OUT. WHEN I CHECK THE SPARK PLUG, IT IS FULL OF OIL AND GAS. MY MIX IS 40:1. DO I NEED TO OVERHALL THE CARBURATOR? I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR OPINION ON THIS WEEDEATER, THANK YOU KINDLY.

Answer
It sounds like the carb diaphragm is stretched out. This is very common. I would recommend installing an entire carb rebuild kit. Just make sure that you are very careful, and very thorough when it comes to disassembly and cleaning, as there are a lot of very small parts involved. Also make sure you are aware of the mixture setting before removing the mixture screws. If you're not sure, start out at 3/4 turn and adjust from there.

Good luck!
