Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 15.5HP OHV Model#CV15S, float bowl, fuel delivery

Question
QUESTION: have a kohler 15.5hp OHV lawn mower. it idles fine but when i engage the blades will run for about a minute then will start to die like its not getting fuel. i replaced the fuel filter gas lines and carburetor gaskets. i also replaced the gasket on the solenoid that is on the float bowl of the carb. was wondering if you could help out. and also explain to me what that solenoid does.
thanks for your time

ANSWER: If you are engaging the blades at idle, that alone may be your problem as it should be at a fast idle to engage and run properly. The solenoid on the carb is an electronic fuel delivery, much like a TBI on a regular truck or car. If it is bad, the engine will not run at all. You may also want to do a thorough cleaning of the carb as well.

QUESTION: No when I engage the blades it's throttled up. So i cleaned the carb and it still does the same thing. Any other suggestions that could cause it not to get enough fuel? When it starts to die if I disengage the blades it will start to run fine. But after I engage the blades it will start to cut out.

Answer
Just a thought...Check the spindles on the deck and make sure they are turning freely. I have had many cases where the spindles are beginning to seize and the motor stalls when engaged. Sometimes even a strong buildup of grass can be enough to cause problems. If it is running fine when not engaged, and you have cleaned the carb, then I don't think you have a fuel delivery issue.
