Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): small engine will not start, starter rope, compression gauge

Question
I have a Yardman YM290 leaf blower, about 5 years old. I was using it the other day, when it coughed a couple of times and quit. Always following the starting instructions, I could not get it to restart. It sounded to me like a fouled plug, so I took the plug out, found it was fouled, cleaned it, and reinstalled. The blower still would not start. So, I got a new plug and installed it, but the blower still would not start. I checked that the plug was sparking, it was. I checked the spark arrestor, it was clean. The air filter was clean. I verified that fuel was getting to the carburetor. After several pulls on the starter rope, I looked at the plug, but it was clean, and had no odor of fuel. There was no odor of fuel coming out of the spark plug hole when pulling the starter rope. I checked the little wire mesh fuel filter in the carburetor, and it was clean. However, I found that if I squirted a little fuel down the throat of the carburetor, I could get the blower to fire a few times, so it seemed clear that it is a fuel problem. So, I got some carburetor cleaner, completely disassembled the carb, cleaned it, and as near as I can tell by spraying the cleaner through the holes, there is no obstruction in any of the little orifices. However, it still won't start, and still seems that no gas is getting into the engine. Any suggestions? TIA.

Answer
Were the carburetor diaphrams soft and flexable?  Do you have a compression gauge to check the engine compression.

I suspect fuel like you said but I'd like to know the engine compression.

Below is a link to the carburetor service manual:

Let me know what the engine compression is.
