Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Whell Bearing Replacement, rear wheel bearings, wear gloves

Question
My Toro Model 30116 (1985 52" walk behind) will need new rear wheel bearings (Toro part 251-299) soon. How are these pressed out of the wheel? Is a special tool required (besides a press)? Any lessons learned you could share would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Wear gloves...other wise you will small your knuckles with the hammer.

We just use a punch to drive out the old bearings and a piece of pipe/socket/round tube of the correct size to drive in the new bearings.

The key when installing the new bearings is to make sure the pipe/socket/round tube fits the outside of the bearing casing...you do not want hit the inside of the bearing as this will damage the bearing.

Let know if this helps.
