Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Portable Generator Purchase Advice

Hi,

I am starting a mobile detail service and need to buy a portable generator to power my pressure washer. According to karcher the formula of Voltage X Amps X 3 gives me a startup wattage of 5400. Can I buy a generator with a start up wattage of 5400 and have it drop to run the washer or get a straight 5400 watt generator?

Bigger is better.  The 5400 watt won't have to work as hard but you should balance cost, performance, weight and loudness.  The Honda's and Yamaha generators are both good units but Honda's are more popular and part are easier to find.

Which ever unit you decide to use make sure you use fuel stabilizer every time you gas up.  Fuel stabilizer will save you big bucks in the maintenace costs plus keep the generator ready to start when you need it.
