Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S small engine wont start, diaphram, check valve

Question
Hell Eric

I have a B&$ engine 10D902-0133-D2 on a pressure washer that won't start.  There is spark at the plug. I suspect the carburetor. I have parts list and schematic(of sorts).  I can't seem to remove the seat-check valve (494409) to inspect it. I don't see any obvious problems with the carb other than maybe the gasket-carburetor pump(495770).  Please advise.  Thanks,Clovis

Answer
I rarely remove the seat-check valve when working on these carbs.  If I remember right, the check valve mainly impact the primer circuit and does not have a lot of impact on engine performance other than starting.  You can remove the seat-check valve with a pick set, similar to an ice pick but the set has four different shaped tips to aid in removing the parts.

I would clean the carb by blowing compressed air from an air compressor through all the carb orfices.  Once clean, replace the diaphram and gaske...make sure you install the part in the right order.

Clean the carb and replace the diaphram before removing the check valve to see if the engine will run.

Let me know what happens.
