Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh OH195SA-72549G, blown head gasket, push tube

Question
This is a sears snow thrower ran great last year put it away added seafoam to the fuel and ran it again in the summer and added fresh fuel and put it away till last big storm. now it  Wont start, getting spark and fuel but backfires out of carb. Did a leak down test on the valves. pulled the valve cover and valves seem to be working fine. Almost like the timing is off. Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
Hello George:

>>Usually the Backfiring through the Carburetor is caused by a Blown Head Gasket between the Push Tube Galley and the Cylinder, a Damaged Flywheel Key, Improper Fuel to Air Ratio, Intake Valve Clearance is Incorrect or the Intake Valve is Not Seating Correctly and the Valve Requires Seating/Lapping in.>>Lets Start with the Carburetor First.
>>Will the Engine make an Attempt to Start/Run without Backfiring if you;
>>Pour a Small Amount of Gas (approximately 1/4oz) into the Carburetor Throat and Try to Start the Engine.
>>If the Engine Starts and Quits or Attempts to Start without Backing, then Check the Carburetor Solenoid.
>>If the Carburetor Solenoid is Good or has been Removed and the Engine will Start and Quit when the Gas is Poured into the Carburetor Throat, then Soak and Clean the Carburetor.
>>You are Welcome for Any Assistance I can be.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. I Hope you Had a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.
