Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere TRS 26 Snow Thrower, worm gear, snow thrower

Question
My Snow thrower is about 18 yrs old and still starts and runs good; but it doesn't throw snow like it used to. The belts are in good shape (they have been replaced), but I noticed that some of the of the metal parts inside the gear box and belt area are showing wear. My question is...1) Are there standard parts (simular to a maintenance kit) that normally needs to be replaced as this thrower gets older. 2) Are there key adjustments that I should know about. I'm pretty handy with tools and really don't want to bring it to the shop or replace things that I don't need to. I hope my questions make sense. Thank you in advance for your answer.

Answer
Hello John:

>>If this Unit has been in Use for 18 Years and has had Routine Waintenance Performed on it and it is Now Starting to Thrown the Snow as Good as it has been, then
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers TRS26 and Click Find. Then Select your Model from the Search Results Area. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. *You can Drag the View Windows for Better Viewing.*
>>The Most likely cause is the Wear in the Gearbox (between the Worm Gear JD PN M110561) and the Ring Gear JD PN  M110573) or a Bearing on the Augers (JD PN M110585).
>>If the Gear Box has Never given any Problems, then I Suggest you Check the Wear Between the Worm and Ring Gear of the Gear Box First.
>>This Area has the Most Pressure on it During Auger Operation and Binding will cause the Problem you Described.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
