Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): oil in snowblower, synthetic engine oil, internal engine components

Question
i have an ariens 1976 snowblower 8/24 with a tecumseh 8hp engine model # HM80-155128c ser-6302d. since it's an older model i wish to reduce engine wear, what type of oil should i use, a synthetic 0w30 or a regular 5w30 or straight grade 30 or something else???

secondly, i find that my oil becomes dark/black easily, is this because the engine is a bit rich or leaky rings???

thanks

bruce

Answer
Hello Bruce:

>>I Use SAE 10W30 Synthetic Engine Oil in My Equpiment, both Landscaping and Automotive.
>>The Synthetic Oil Helps give the Best Protection to the Internal Engine Components and is Changed Less Often.
>>Most Regular Engine Oils Breakdown after about 5,000 Miles for Automotive and 25 Operational Hours for Lawn and Garden Engines.
>>Most Synthetic Oils Breakdown after 15,000 Miles for Automotive Engines and 75 Operational Hours in Lawn and Garden Equipment.
>>The Dark Color of the Oil can be caused by Many Different Things.
>>The Brand of Oil Itself, the Crankcase may be Sautrated with Carbon Deposits that Accumulate over Time, the Engines Carburetor Mixture is too Rich or the Rings May be Bypassing More Compression than Designed.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.
