Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere L130 cutting out.

Question
QUESTION: Hi,I have a John Deere L130 riding lawnmower that is five years old.The mower recently started to cut out and stop running. It happens at different times like when backing up or going up a hill.I just gave it a tune because of the hours it is being used and the problem continues. It seems it is gas related. When it stops I remove the hose off the fuel filter I can hear the gas goes back to the gas tank.I then put the clamp back on and the mower starts up.This happens all the time now.I was think it could be the gas tank vent but not sure and do not know where the vent is.Help!

ANSWER: Not knowing what kind of engine I can only guess, if it has a fuel pump, it could be getting weak, it could be your vacuum line to the fuel pump is cracked. I have heard of a fuel filter forming a crack and allowing air to get in. These are a few options.

QUESTION: The mower has a 23 horse kohler engine and I have already changed the fuel pump. What are my options and do you have any info on the gas tank vent and where to look for it?Thanks for your help.

Answer
I really don't work on John Deere mowers, but I believe they are like everybody else and put the vent in the gas cap. I would be interested in if it takes the same amount of time for this to happen, or if, like you said, it happens at different times. If it is the vent, it should take about the same amount of time, except when the  tank is very full or low it should take a long time if it's low and a short time if it's full.
