Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Engine Repair, bolt holes, mounting bolt

Question
Hello Mr. John, this is hunter, i just had a few questions about my engine on my go cart. I have a what is believed to be a techumseh, 12 horsepower ohv engine. I did some research but because its so old i didn't find much, all i know is that they last made it in 1992. I had it running fine and we tried to adjust the governor on it and that went ok we fixed it after a while. But i had recently took it on a trip for a family get to gether and i was going to ride it, it stared up fine, and then it just cut off. It wasn't running like normal so i was like ok let it sit for a while and i will let it warm up a little more. so i let it sit and stared it up and it made a loud noise and stopped. I checked the oil and there was none. It now makes a knocking noise and i need to know how to fix it please.

Answer
Hello Hunter:

>>From your Description (and the Fact that this is a Tecumseh Engine that was Run with Low Oil Level) it Sounds like the Connecting Rod is Damaged and the Crankshaft and Connecting Rod will have to be Replaced.
>>I have one of these Engines Off a Scrambler 6X6 and I Suggest you Locate a Replacement Engine.
>>Parts for this Engine are Very Hard to Find.
>>Almost Any 12 to 16 HP Engine OEM should Work as a Replacement as Long as the Crankshaft Length, Diameter and Key Way are the Same and the Engine Mounting Bolt Holes Align Properly.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
