Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lawnboy self propelled, assembly drawings, output shaft

Question
I have a lawnboy 10682 insight. The self propel feature doesn't work well. It makes a bad noise and will or will not power itself forward. The belt seems to be good. I don't see any broken teeth on either gear in the gear-box. I adjusted the cable tension-no help. If I grab the G-box and push it to the side on the axle, it seems to slide about a 1/8" or so and makes a more solid gear mesh. Any ideas???

Answer
Hello Terry:

>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/default.cfm?xCaller=LawnBoy and Select Start Parts Viewer. Then Enter the Model Numbers (10682) and Click Search. Then Select View Assembly Drawings. Then Select the Component you Wish to View.
>>Select the Transmission Assembly Breakdown.
>>From your Description it Sounds like the Pin-Groove (#2) is Worn and Allowing the Gear-Bevel (#6) to be too Far from the Pinion (#4) or the Bearing (#5) is Worn and Requires Replacing.
>>Also, if the Output Bushings (#8) are Worn you will have the Side Play you Described and the Pinion (#4) and Gear-Bevel (#6) will Not Mesh Correctly and cause the Problem you Described.
>>I Usually Replace the Bushings (#8) and the Pin-Groove (#2) whenever I have this Problem if the Bearing, Pinion and Gear-Bevel are in Good Condition and it will Correct this Problem in 90% of the Transmissions.
>>The 1/8" Side Movement of the Gearbox is Due to Worn Output Shaft Bushings.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
