Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 1993 Briggs and Stratton Engine, briggs and stratton, hey john
QuestionHey John! Went out this morning and started riding lawnmower. Idled great. Put in gear and soon as I let out clutch, the engine rpms started surging up and down. Put in neutral, got off mower and now at idle it starts to surge up and down. Then it clears its throat and starts idling fine for a brief spell, then starts surging again. Once it starts to warm up it starts to really not want to run smoothly. Could this be a bad Armature/Magneto breaking down. No backfiring. Just acts like u turn ed the key off and waited 2 sec and turned it back on. I just posted a question but couldn't find a way to get back to it to add on to original question. Sorry.
AnswerThis really sounds like a carburetor issue to me. I suggest you remove the carburetor and either have it cleaned or clean it yourself. I suggest you use Deep Creep as the regular carburetor cleaner doesn't always seem to cut the mustard lately with ethanol.
