Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): honda gxv270 electrical, coil pack, cranks

Question
Hi, i have a ride on mower with a honda gxv270 engine. i purchased a new coil pack for it as i was told it was broken, the wiring for the key was also pulled apart when i got it. i have fitted the new coil pack and wired the key now i can crank but it blows the fuse between the battery and key barrel after a few cranks. there is also no spark at the spark plug while it is cranking. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Answer
The blowing fuse indicates too much current is flowing through the circuit.  Do you have the correct rated fuse in the circuit?

If the correct fuse is in the circuit and it keeps blowing then there may be a short, a defective solenoid or starter.

Do you have a pull start or a low oil sensor on the engnie?

If you have a pull start, disconnect all the wires connected to the ignition module and use the pull start to check for spark.  Do you have spark with all the wires, should only be one wire, dis-connected?

Let me know.
