Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): problems with my power torque victa lawnmower, piston rings, head gaskets

how do you no if your piston stuffed ive got head gaskets and new carby coming need to no how i can tell if i need to get new piston rings thankyou jay.

Answer
A cylinder leakdown test is the best tool to check compression.  Are you rebuilding the engine?  If, a new piston is a must if you wish to get the maximum number of years out of the mower.  If you are rebuilding on the cheap then just install new rings.
