Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): stalling , no restart, horizontal shaft, electronic ignition

HI Mr. Jones: What would you make of a '78 Briggs 4 hp. horizontal shaft engine that starts cold and runs w/choke full on and tries to stall after warming when the choke is opened unless at higher rpms- 2300 to 2800 rpms? Then, after getting to operating temp. will not restart? T/Y Greg

Have you checked to see if you have spark after it is at operating temp?  You engine should have points unless it has been coverted to electronic ignition.

Check for spark first but I suspect the carburetor is the problem since you mentioned the choke issues.  Do you know if the valves have ever been checked or adjusted?
