Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Huskie rider will not start, using jumper cables, battery cables

Question
My huskie riding lawnmower will start when I jump it at the start but will not start when I jump it at the batteries.  When I turn the key over with and with out the cables connected to the batteries I hear a click below the batteries.  Where do you think my problem is?  A sensor or switch?  When I do jump at the starter it runs great.  Thanks

Answer
The click you are hearing is probably the solenoid.  Often times this is caused by a low charged battery but since you are using jumper cables then I would suspect a dirty/corroded connection.

Dis-connect the battery cables and clean the battery terminal posts and cable ends with a wirebrush.  Re-connect and see is the mower will start.

Also, make sure the battery is fully charged.

Let me know what you find.
