Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): craftsman dyt4000 engine swap briggs to kohler command, foot prints, craftsman dyt4000

Question
The mower currently has a blown 18.5 Intec. I have a 15.5 kohler command I am trying to swap to. Will it swap fairly easily? mainly the electric pto? thank you

Answer
You will have to measure the crankshaft output on both engine but most likely they will fit.  Small engine manufactures usually use very similar, if not the same, outputs and engine foot prints for larger frame engines.  This saves money for both the mower manufacture and engine manufacture plus it provides consumers engine options when purchasing equipment.

Kohler manuals are available online and Briggs has an alternator replacement manual that will help with the minor wiring modifications.

Let me know if this helps.
