Subaru Repair: 1992 L series subaru, hydraulic tappets, vise grips

On an EA82 motor that has been taken apart. How do you remove the hydraulic tappets that appear 'stuck' in the cylinder head.

Answer
Very carefully, there are a lot of things we have had to do through the years.  Ultimately we usually put the heads in a hot water type parts washer until the heads are good and hot and then try to extract them by using a rag over the lifter and a pair of vise grips over the rag.Just be careful where you put the vise grips.
