Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Carb problem, lawnmower repair, shot time

Question
I have a lawn mower that set 3 years with old gas in it.It ran great before setting. Here is the problem. It is a Tecumseh LEV80  333004A The carb is a self governing one with a puls start enrichner. The only number I coult find on it id 5175A9G or C it was hard to read. Of course after setting for 3 years it had a lot!!! of crap in the fuel bowl. I have sooked it in carb claeaner over night twice sprayed through evey passage I could find with spray carb cleaner also.I was told by a lawnmower repair man that I needed to replace the main plastic pickup tube and o rings which I did. This carb will not work, the fuel bowl has fuel in it every time I take it off so it is getting gas and the float level is set right. You can poor a small amount of gas in the carb and it will run for a shot time untill the gas has run out.I for the life of me cannot understand why it will not pick up any gas when the bowl is full and the main jet which is also the bowl nut is clean!!Believe it or not I am an outboard mechanic and have cleaned many many carbs and they have alway worked. So I must be missing something. Thanks Vern

Somewhere there is a blockage, it has to be in the idle port as thats how the engine first gets fuel.Since you said that this carb set for 3 years the ports may be so far gone that a rebuild wont do any good,as the carb sat for a long time and the crap is wedged in the ports. Your best bet is to replace the carburetor completely. The carb # is 640199 and they run for around $59.00.
