Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 15.5 briggs and stratton bolens(mtd) riding mower, spindle bearings, briggs and stratton

Question
I have a bolens riding mower with a 15.5 bs engine, it seams to run fine until I engage the blades(lower the deck). Then the rpm's drop way down and it wants to die.
Model #662, ser. #1b034b80217
model#13am662f765
I replaced 2 spindle bearings, belt, spark plug and went thru the carb. And it still runs VERY bad when the deck is dropped. Any ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks, Jim

You have a carburetor problem or maybe even a governor problem. When you start it and it acts like it wants to stall loosen the fuel tank cap, sometimes they get clogged, they need to breathe. take it off it that fixes the problem either clean it or buy a new one.

You seem to be indicating that the engine is laboring and that engaging the deck itself seems to be the cause. By now, I hope that you have pulled the deck, cleaned and inspected. If all seems well on that end, then one must assume there is a condition causing the engine to be low on power.Fuel that is old (shoot for 30 days or less) or a restrictive fuel filter may be the cause. If you choose to replace the filter, allow some fuel to drain ahead of the filter into a container in case there may be debris in the line. Watch for it. If the ground speed slowing seems to match the engine speed- that would be assumed. If it slows much more than you think per the engine speed- the key in the engine pulley may be sheared or missing. That would explain the poor deck performance as well. You seem to be describing the issue is caused by slow engine speed however.
