Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ignition coil-Green Machine, throttle cables, phelon

Question
QUESTION: I have The Green Machine Model 3000M with no maker name on the power unit.
My machine ran one day and would not the next.  I replaced the plug and get no spark. I think it is the coil but need help locating a replacement.  On the Internet I found a parts list and the coil-ignition part number of 284001 but can not find a supplier.

ANSWER: Great machine but to my knowledge they are no longer made.

Did you try this link?

Is there a seperate exciter module connected to the coil?  This is generally a small square or retangle box with one or maybe two wires coming out of it.  I've found more defective exciter modules than bad coils. I have also used Shindaiwa exciter modules on several other brand of trimmers when other parts were no longer available.

Let me know.

QUESTION: Thanks for your answer.  I can not see a separate exciter module connected to the coil  I have a picture of the coil if that will help.
I did try the green machine parts page but they have not responded.

My main frustration is that there are so many engines made that there is not a substitute part!!!

Here is Phelon's home page:

Phelon makes many ignition coils for small engines.  I'm betting they make one that "will fit" your unit but the challenge is finding one that "will fit".  One option you can do is to call some small engine repair shops in you local area and see if they have a trimmer "bone yard".  We have several hundred trimmers, various makes/models that are not worth repairing, that we keep around for used parts such as coils, throttle cables, heads and shafts.  We also periodically strip really old, broke machines and stock the "good" parts.

It would take a lot of time to try to find one via pictures or measurements. It's easier for you to take the coil to a shop that may have used parts so they can physically see the part and try to match it.  A well experienced technician may even be able to recommend a certain brand or model that has a similar coil.

Please send a picture of the coil and I see if I recognize one that might fit.
