Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs and straton engine 287707 - fuel solenoid, key switch, fuel flow

Hi,

I have a B&S ride on lawn mower, it does start then shuts off after a couple of seconds.  i have tester the fuel shut off solenoid which seems to be the problem.  it only receives power when the engine is cranked over.  when the key is in the on position no power is getting to the fuel solenoid.  

do you know what may cause this?
or how i can fix it?

Not knowing what engine you have I will have to guess on this.when you turn the key on the fuel solenoid energizers and lets fuel flow and then when you shut the mower off the solenoid closes to not allow the carb to back fire. I would check the key switch to make sure that all wires are tight and then check all the safety switches also because some wont allow the engine to crank or start.
