Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JD 445 - remove camshaft, cam lobes, push tube

Question
The gear on the camshaft is plastic and the gear is striped.

I have the front open, I need to know if I need to remove the heads in order to get the camshaft out.

I would appreciate any help,

Answer
Hello Al:

>>The Heads Do Not have to be Removed.
>>You can Loosen the Rocker Arms and Remove the Push Tubes and then Using a Flat Screw Driver Push the Tappets Away from the Cam Lobes so the Cam can be Removed.
>>Some of these Engine have a Steel Push Tube for the Exhaust and Alloy Push Tube for the Intake.
>>The Following is Instructions on Aligning the Cam and Crankshaft.
>>There is a Mark (-) on the Crankshaft Gear Tooth and a Dot(. or -) between the Teeth on the Cam that have to be Matched for the Valve Timing to be Correct. Usually the Larger Dot is the Timing Mark.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
