Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs & Stratton 15 hp, briggs and stratton, briggs stratton

Question
John,
I am sorry to have been so unclear in my last questions and this is a fundamentally dumb one. My question is, if the steel push rod goes in the exhaust valve. Which one is the exhaust valve? At the top or the bottom? I have the engine specs but it does not indicate which is the exhaust valve and and obviously the other being the intake valve. I have a B&S 15hp Model: 28Q777 Type 0681-01 code:970217ZE. HELP!
Also I can find no information about the sequence to tighten the head bolts in any ideas?
Thank- you for your patience,
Dale

Answer
Hi Dale:

>>No Worries.
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Select the File #28 . Then Select the Folder #28Q700. **Note: you can Download and Save the Breakdown for your Engine by Selecting the 2nd Icon from the Left at the Top of the PDF page.**
>>The Intake Valve is Usually on the Top.
>>You can Locate the Intake Valve by Looking at the Intake Port and the Intake Valve is in Line with this Port.
>>The Head Bolts will be Torqued in 3  Steps.
>>Step 1 - Hand Tightened
>>Step 2 - Torqued to 1/2 of the Suggest Torque
>>Step 3 - Torqued to Suggested Torque
>>Step 4 - Check All the Head Bolts for Proper Torque following the Sequence Below.
>>Start with the Head Bolt Nearest the Center Above the Spark Plug and Hand Tighten.
>>Now Locate the Bolt Straight Across (as near as Possible) from the Bolt you Just Hand Tightened.
>>Now Locate the Bolt to the Left of the Last Bolt you Tightened.
>>Now Jump Across to the Head to the Next Bolt and Continue Until All the Bolts are Tightened.
>>Now Start Again with the Second Torque of the Head Bolts and ect.
>>As Always, If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
