Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JD RX-95 has 2 speeds FWD and REV., speed transaxle, snails pace

Question
I just bought a JD RX-95 and it's in great shape, aside from a speed issue. No matter what gear is selected it moves at a snails pace. Is it possible for the shifting linkage to wear or come out of adjustment? The 12.5 Kawi engine runs like a top, my first impression would have been the tranny is low on fluid, my understanding of the model is that it has a hydro-static transmission, w/o a manual I have no idea how to check or service it. By looking at the linkages under the seat there seems to be very little movement through the curve of both linkages. Any help is appreciated.

Regards,

P.K.
