Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler Engine Problem, condensor, rpms

Question
John, thank you for your quick response. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. It is very hard to catch you when you are available even at 8:00pm EST. I thought the last time I used All experts they sent me your response and I could reply through it and not have to wait until you were available. Also, I can’t find where to post Comments and Ratings like before.
You were correct, the points were set at about .025 so I set them at .018. The engine was very hard to start. It must have turned over at least 20 times before it finally started after stumbling a bit. (Before I set the points it started fine, after about 3 turns.) I started mowing and it was running better than before, as it was not spitting gas out of the carb like before.  It was however not running like it should. About every minute or so it would drop from 3500 RPM’s to like 2000 RPM’s for just a second or two and then it would recover. It would only do this while mowing. As before, without the PTO engaged it runs great. I set the points at .020, put a new plug in and it is still very hard to start, hot or cold, and still drops in RPM’s every minute or so while mowing. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hello Again Robert:

>>Wow, it has been a while (4/22/10).
>>According to my Files you haven't Read my Last E-mail (that explains the Reason for No Comments and Ratings Section), but somehow you Read my Mind and you have Performed the Suggested Fix for this Unit. LOL.
>>Set the Point Set to .020in .
>>The Loss of RPM's and Recovery may be Due to a Bad Condensor.
>>After you Set the Point Set to .020in and Operate the Unit, Let me know what Change (if Any) in the Engines Start Up and Operating is Like, Please.
>>As Always, If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
