Answer
Hi James;

>>Have you Checked Under the Blower Housing and made Sure the Area is Clear of Debris?
>>Mice like to make Nest Under the Blower Housings of Small Engines during the Winter and this is Usually the Cause for Small Engines to Heat Up Quickly.
>>Also, if the Flywheel Key is Slightly Damaged, the Engine may Run, but the Timing is Off Enough that the Engine Heats Up.
>>Did you Change the Muffler after the Gas Problem.
>>Sometimes after a Problem with the Crankcase Flooding, the Muffler is Contaminated with Gas.
>>Again and Always, If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
