Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): tiller dies under load, briggs stratton, condenser

Question
i have a tiller, model gil-1580e, with a briggs & stratton model 103202, type 0135-04, code 73101607. it starts easy and runs at idle or full speed, without load forever. once it's warm and underload it dies. it restarts after a few minutes and will run without load, but will die again under load.any ideas as to the cause? thanks

Answer
Hi Mark,

Do you have fresh fuel???

This is an old engine and could have a bad condenser.  When the engine dies, immediately check it for spark.  If no spark you have a defective condenser.  Its easier and less labor to replace the coil with a new solid state ignition module.

Hope this helps...  FYI  your engine was made in October of 1973.  Time for a tune up!  lol
