Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Removing end of crankshaft, broken bolts, side cutters

Question
How do you remove the part at the end of the crankshaft on a 6.5HP? I swapping out an engine and snapped two mounting mounts. After trying to remove them with no luck figured I could swap out the base plate which the broken bolts were embedded.

I've unbolted the base plate but can't get it over oval shaped part at the end of the shaft that the blade connects to. How do I remove this piece?

Answer
hi steve

you will have to obtain a 2 or 3 legg puller and fit the blade bolt back into end of  pto
then fit the puller over the adapter and tighten the puller centre bolt and pull the adapter off
if it is siezed on you may have to use some heat from a blow torch and crank up the puller to make it budge

then remove the pto key with side cutters  and lift it out  then remove the sump plate

be sure make a note of the crank/shaft pinion gear mark and the camshaft gear marks

these are to be aligned  exactly    . .  when camshaft / valve timming is set
do not let  followers fall out of position    dont forget the oil slinger / governor  as well

be sure to replace pto seal and sump gasket  and tighten down  when reasembling

hope this helps
