Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): fuel pump, john deere 316, hose clamps

Question
I have a older john deere 316 tractor with the twin cylinder onan motor. It was getting no fuel past the fuel pump mounted to the side of the motor. So i took it apart cleaned it out hooked it back up started right up realized fuel filter had a pin size hole in it, so bought a new fuel filter, ran good for 2 days then it started surging and died. but while it was surging i could see that only a lil bit of gas was flowing through the fuel filter should i clean the fuel pump again or just buy a new fuel pump for it.
