Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 12.5 b&s damaged muffer port, briggs stratton, hp briggs

Question
I have a tractor with a 12.5 hp briggs & stratton that the threads for the muffler have stripped out of the block, is there a
repair (thread insert/ self tapping o/s muffler etc) available to fix this? the motor still runs good, but it would be hard to justify a new engine for this old tractor

You can rethread the exhaust port the use a heli coil to fill in The bigger threads. If the muffler is the cause get rid of it. Most auto parts and some hardware stores carry this you need to bring in the muffler and they will get you a heli coil to fit in the intake. What this does is fill in the bigger threads so you can put the muffler back in.
