Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Blown Kawasaki FC540V, john deere 265, jd dealer

Question
I just picked up a John Deere 265 with a Kawasaki FC540V.  The engine is destroyed internally and needs to be replaced.  Talked to local JD dealer and they said IF they could get a short block it would be in excess of $2000.00.  Can you tell me what my options would be to repower this unit.  The tractor is in amazing shape.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Dave

Answer
Hello Dave:

>>Sorry for the Delay, but I had a Family Emergency come up and it kept me away all day. I am Usually able to Answer Questions within 12 to 18 Hours.
>>I Like the JD Product Lines, but Not their Prices.
>>This Unit can be Powered by Any OEM Engine that has the Same Mounting Holes, Crankshaft Length, Diameter and Key Slot and HP.
>>A Slightly Higher HP (within 5 HP) can be Used, but Do Not Overpower the Unit. This will cause Damage to the Units Operating Components. Under Powering will also cause Problems.
>>Have you Compared Prices from these Site Addy; http://www.tulsaenginewarehouse.com/catalog/kawasaki/ ? A Complete Engine (ready to Mount) from here is Approximately $1200.00 to $1800.00.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
