Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): craftsman lawnmower wont charge, craftsman 917, winter storage

one yr old craftsman 917.371030, power propelled elect start mower.
bought it last fall, just brought it out, charged with charger, but it didnt take...we are devastated...where should we start?

Is the battery connected properly and are you following all the starting procedures?

IMPORTANT: The engine will not recharge your battery.  At the end of the mowing season the
battery should be charged for 48 hours to protect the battery during winter storage.
CAUTION: Always disconnect the engine connector (male) from the battery connector (female) to prevent accidental starting when transporting or storing your lawn mower after the season.

Battery part number Sears 189589.
Charger part number 190097.

You can take the charger to a shop and have it checked or you can check it yourself with a voltmeter.  If the charger is working then the battery must be bad, not taking or holding a charge.

Is the mower still under warranty?
