Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler engine, oil filter removal, engine oil filter, husqvarna riding mower

Question
John,
I have a Kohler "Courage 20" engine in a Husqvarna riding mower and am trying to remove/replace the factory installed oil filter for the first time.  I've tried to remove the oil filter by turning the filter counterclockwise with a strap wrench.  It will not budge.  Is this the correct way to remove this filter?  If it is, what should I do to free it up?

Thanks,
Gary

Answer
Hello Gary:

>>From your Description it Sounds like the Filter was Tightened too Tight when it was Replaced last time.
>>You are Turning the Filter the Correct Direction to Loosen and Remove it.
>>The O-Ring Seal has Seized to the Engine Block.
>>You may end up Crushing the Oil Filter to get it to Loosen from the Engine Block.
>>You can View a Breakdown of the Engine at this Site Addy; http://www.kohlerplus.com/login.asp and Select Enter as Guest. Now Select the Thumbnail of the Engine Catalog you Wish to View.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
