Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs and Stratton choke link, briggs and stratton, hp briggs

Question
I have an old lawn chief mower with a 10 hp Briggs and Stratton engine.  Motor is 256707 0128 01 90111231.  It has been sitting for 4 years.  I took apart and cleaned the carb but the choke link wasn't attached when I started.  This may be why it wasn't running when I stopped using it years ago.  I am having trouble figuring out how it attaches at the non-carb end.  Was there a spring on the non carb end of the link?
