Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): no power to the coil, honda gx160, sae 30

Question
hi i have a 2.6 kva mach  purewave inverter generator, model number ME-GG2500LB I BROUGHT IT FROM EBAY a month ago,it was running fine for a week and then it slowly stop,i thought it was a low oil alarm that stop it ,not the case as it was full of oil.so i disconnected the  oil sensor,to stop it from grounding out, still no spark,i had the coil tested it was ok,there is a small amount of power going to the coil but not enough to make a spark,is there any other censers on it?or what else can i do to get it going, thank you from jeff

Answer
hi jeff

does this unit have engine that looks like a honda  gx160 or gx200

unit sounds like it  but cant be sure  never seen type you mention ,

if you have oil sensor disconnected, and spark is poor ,  check  plug resistor cap for excessive resistance  should be no more than 5000 ohms  or 5 k/ ohms - make sure  circiut breaker or switch has not been tripped  next check the kill wire for shorting  ,  diconnect from  ignition coil  end as well  spark should jump a 6 mm  gap minimum , this stresses the coil and tests the reserve voltage as well   if it does not do this faulty coil indicated ,but   check flywheel key   check  flywheel magnets , check air gap at coil should be 0.010 - 0.012 thou

make sure oil in unit is of correct type  , these units do not like sae 30
they usually like 20w/50  or 10w/40
