Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): small motor, chipper shredder, spec numbers

Question
QUESTION: mtd chipper-shredder w/5hp briggs-straton wont start. I got this used and it was in real good shape but had fuel left in it for afew years,so it was all dried out.I'm trying to find a carb kit for it. This is all the info I have on it "lot-model 241-645-000" and "mfg date 5281a1". The carb has no markings on it at all.Any help would be great!

ANSWER: Hello Bill:

>>According to my Search, this is a 1991 Chipper/Shredder manufactured by MTD.
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Unit at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM (MTD) and Enter the Model Numbers (241-645-000). Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Unit you Wish to View.
>>The Breakdown does Not Show the Engine Used.
>>Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Engine Model Numbers May be Stamped Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) Above the Spark Plug.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

QUESTION: Thank you for your reply! I have look this motor over and can not find any numbers at all (is this uncommon or am I just nuts?) Would like to find a rebuild kit for the carb,Is there any other way to do this? Thanks again for your help!!

Answer
Hello Again Bill:

>>Without Engine Model and Type Numbers it is going to be Hard to Locate the Carburetor Kit or Any Other Parts for this Engine.
>>You can take the Unit to your Local Repair Service and they can Identify the Engine for you or you can Attach a Picture of the Engine to a Follow Up Question and I Might be able to Identify the Engine from that and Better Assist you.
>>As Always, If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.
