Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 5hp briggs starving for fuel, chain and sprocket, fuel tank

my 5hp briggs go kart sat up about a year due to a chain and sprocket prob ran fine now went out to start it and only will run with choke on if i take choke off it surges and will die anything i can do to resolve this?

Do you have old fuel in the tank?  IF you do drain and fill with fresh fuel from the gas pump.  You it sounds like your pickup tube is partially plugged.

you need to take the carb AND tank off as an assembly.  There are two bolts that hold the carb on and one underneath the fuel tank by the oil drain.  Remove it as an assembly and then take the carb off of the tank.  Look at the plastic pickup tubes that stick down into the tank.  Generally the screen is plugged on the longer tube.

As long as you have the carb off the fuel tank, replace the diaphragm on the side of the carb.  MAKE NOTE of the spring placement when you take the cover off.  If you reinstall it the wrong way it will not work.
