Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Stihl 260 pro, oil port, oil tank

Question
"John I have a new Stihl 260 Pro when I start it up it hesitates and you have to feather the throttle to get the rpms up. I notice that the chain is hard to pull around the bar but when I put WD40 on the chain and bar it is very easy to pull around the bar and it seems to run alot better.  I am using an off brand bar oil do you think that oil may be to thick?"

Answer
Hello Jason:

>>I have Found that the OEMs of Chainsaws have Lessened the Amount of Oil Going to the Bars and I have Questioned Most of them on this and was Informed; "with Todays Bar Oils, Less Oil to the Bar is Required and therefore the Consumer Saves Money on Bar Oil."
>>I Usually Drill Out the Oiler Port Until I Reach as Close to a  1 to 1 Ratio as Possible. When the Saw Runs Out of Fuel, the Bar Oil Tank is Almost Empty and Requires Filling at the Same Time as the Fuel Tank.
>>Start by Drilling the Oil Port 1 Size Larger than the Oil Port Hole that is Now in the Saw.
>>The Depth the Oil Port hole has to be Drilled Varies with Each OEM Saw, so you have to be Careful and Not Drill too Deep Also.
>>Fill Both Tanks and Use the Saw Until the Fuel Tank Runs Dry.
>>Check the Oil Tank.
>>Repeat the Drilling and Operating Process Until you have as Close to a 1 to 1 Ratio as Possible or Until you Feel the Bar is Getting Sufficient Oil to the Bar.
>>**Be careful and Do Not Try to get an Exact 1 to 1 Ratio. You can Drill the Oil Port too Large and then the Oil Tank will Run Dry before the Fuel Tank and Bar Damage can Occur.**
>>I have Used Almost Every Bar Oil on the Market in my Area (and some Online Purchases too) and have Not Found a Single 1 that will keep my Chainsaw Bars Oiled Properly Unless I Enlarge the Oil Port on New Chainsaws to some Degree.
>>Just between you and me, I Think it's a Money Thing. Less Oil to the Bar means More Friction and More Friction means more Bars and Chains to be Sold.
>>You Might need to have the Carburetor Set to Prevent the Hesitation.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
