Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): murray riding mower, trans issues, wrong number

Question
I have a murray select hydro-automatic riding mower. It will not go into gear (move forward/backward). What is wrong?

Answer
Number one, make sure the break is not hung keeping the unit from moving. Most of the time you can press in the brake pedal with you foot and let you foot slide off of it to let the brake pedal come back abruptly. This may release the brake. Or you may have to get under the unit and do it by hand. If the brake is not the issue then check the belt . Make sure it is in proper place and has enough tension to pull the trans pulley. If that is ok make sure the hydro release by pass is not stuck in the by pass or free role position. Then check your linkage from the drive pedal or lever. Make sure it is moving the engagement on the transmission.
If all these things are ok, you may have internal trans issues.
