Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): stihl chainsaw, left hand thread, drive sprocket

Question
how to replace the drive sprocket on an o28av saw

Answer
hi  rick

1st  remove plug

2nd  fit a thickish ie  6.00 mm or more nylon rope  into combustion chamber and let the piston  jamb it in between the piston and head  ( its called a soft stop )in the normal  rotation

use a hammer and  punch or a socket and  ratchet  and remove the clutch  (its a left hand thread ) so undo  it  turning it to the r/h - keep everything in its  correct relationship

from  memory  the drive sprocket could be a 3/8  spur  drum  or  a 3/8 -7  rim sprocket

just reverse the proceedure to refit the sprocket and tighten the clutch

hope this helps
