Question

CLEANED CARB PUT BACK ON GAS COMING OUT OF MUFFLER.
PUT NEW NEEDLE AND SEAT.
HAVE GOOD SPARK, PLUG GETS SOAKED AND GAS OUT OF MUFFLER.
PULLED CARB APART SEVERAL TIMES PUT ALL BACK TOGETHER AND CHECKED FLOAT SETTINGS.
STILL CAN'T GET FIRED UP.
HELP PLEASE...............

ANSWER: hi wayne
what make engine is this    briggs / tecumseh      need model and type

If raw gas comming out muffler  - might  only be  carburettor
does the oil in sump smell of fuel  ?   does the engine have a fuel pump ?

Does engine has good compression and no tight or burnt valves ?

Is the fuel tank in the oem position  and has not been raised ?

you said new needle and seat - are they the correct ones for the carb  and have they been installed correctly ?

if you have float bowl off  and physicaly gently hold up the float fuel should stop
but if it doesnt possible erosion around seat area of carb or something is hanging up
or float has hole in it making it sink instead of floating

from experience   carby is usually the problem

the other possiblity is fuel pump if has one is not shuting off fuel flow
ie could a ruptured pump diaphram

please check and let me know

hope this helps    cheers paul

QUESTION: HELLO PAUL, IT IS A TECUMSEH 2 STROKE #937003  000646 - HSK600 WITH FLOAT STYLE CARB. ENGINE HAS GOOD COMPRESSION. THIS MACHINE ACTUALLY RAN THEN I SHUT IT OFF. NEVER TO GET IT RUNNING AGAIN. NO FUEL PUMP AND WITH SLIGHT PRESSURE ON FLOAT FUEL SHUTS OFF. I STILL CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. AS I SAID FUEL COMES OUT CARB EVEN IF YOU DON'T PRIME.

ANSWER: hi  wayne   sorry  i thought you had a 4 stroke engine   check below still think its a carby problem  but remember  muffler is part of fuel system on 2 stroke

bad or poor spark could cause no fire in combustion chamber - while this happens  fuel is still being taken into c/case and cylinder

unit is a series 1 carb check for dirt in tank and fuel lines,

have you checked atmospheric vent holes for float bowl
check needle and seat for proper instalation  , does float have hole in it ?

ie  new seat with groove facing inwards  and pressed in with a  5/32 flat punch
needle fitted with long side of needle  clip pointing to air cleaner side
then fit float assy with hinge pin ( note some models may have a damper spring fitted over the hinge pin as well this should be fitted before fitting hinge pin to carb body posts ps leave it loose , fit pin completely  then hook the right angle leg over the lip of carb  )  and turn carby upside down use 11/64 drill bit accross carb directly  opposite  hinge pin  ( bend float tang to adjust this hieght) float should just rest on it if correct then install bowl o ring and float bowl  and adjustable main jet with  bowl washer

basic carb prsets are  main mixture jet  1.5 turns from lightly seated
idle preset 1.0 turns out from lightly seated

does the engine have good spark  and is muffler  clear ?

give it a try

QUESTION: HELLO PAUL, ONE LAST QUESTION THIS UNIT HAS VERY GOOD SPARK. IF THE CRANKCASE IS FULL OF FUEL HOW DO I EMPTY IT. COULD IT GET FULL OF FUEL FROM PRIMING AND TRYING TO KEEP STARTING. I ALSO CLEANED ALL THE CARB PORTS I COULD FIND WITH SPRAY CARB CLEANER.

Answer
hi  wayne

pull out plug , remove air filter ,  make sure  igntion is in stop   so  no igntion takes  place while preforming this proceedure -  pull motor over briskly with starter rope  with  throttle wide open and keep doing this  until c/case is clear  ( no more fuel comes out of plug hole while cranking motor over  with  starter rope )  make sure no spark can occur or you might have a fire  - just to be sure  have a exstingisher handy.

give it a go

cheers  paul
