Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): HM80 Governor?, adjustment screws, very time consuming

Question
I have a John Deer TRX 26 snowblower that was running rough - missing, and some rpm surge.  After warming it up I set the high and low adjustment screws to the recommended initial settings and set out to fine tune it.  I was making what seemed to be good progress, but it suddenly ran up to very high speed.  I shuot it down, but now each time I start it it races to excessive rpm levels

Answer
Follow the directions for adjusting the govenor using this link:

If adjusting the governor does not fix the problem then most likely the governor spool weights flew out past the spool.  This means you would have to replace the governor spool which involves removing the engine, splitting the engine case, pulling out the old spool shaft and pressing in a new governor spool.  Not a real hard repair but very time consuming and you need a press.

I have has several Tecumseh engines with this problem.  Hopefully adjusting the governor will fix you problem but I just wanted to give you a heads up if you don't see any external governor problems.
