Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): HR215, honda hr21, spark plug wire

Question

Sir,

The model of my lawn mower is HONDA HR21.5 (There is characters after 5).

When I try to pull the rope for starting the engine, the rope gives me very strong resistance to make me not possible to pull.

This problem happened before. It solved "automatically" after I change a spark plug. I mean, the rope allows me to pull and engine atarts eight away.

Thanks,
Andy

Answer
Do you have a blade on the bottom of the engine when your trying to pull it over?  You have to have a blade on the underside of the mower.  The blade acts as a counterweight.

Another cause is a bent blade or crankshaft.  To see this, disconnect the spark plug wire before turning engine over.

Did you hit something while mowing?  Another cause is a partially sheared or completely sheared flywheel key.

Hope these things help.
